C&IT Hosting Environment
C&IT supplies the university with an enterprise hosting environment to be used free of charge. Marketing and Communications supplies the use of the CMS and Events Calendar free of charge but offers on a charge basis Web site planing, navigation, design and development.
About the Environment
Specs:
Sun Solaris OS
Apache 1.3.x
PHP 5.2.x
MySQL 5.x
Development and Production environments, files will first be uploaded to the development server then rolled to the production server. This offers a more secure and stable environment since live files are not being edited directly.
Why Host with C&IT?
The question often comes up about housing your own server in your department for your Web site. Most do not know that C&IT offers this hosting service free of charge. And unlike an in house server C&IT's is supported software and hardware wise eleviating the need to purchase additional hardware or expend resources on keeping a system up to date and running. Hosting in this environment will allow Web publishers to focus on the content without having to worry about maintenance of hardware and software.
